As the cover art suggests, the album is chock full of lush melodies. Turnover calls Virginia Beach home, but the influence of California’s soft sunny days takes center stage here, along with a delicate sort of wistfulness. Slow to midtempo. You really can’t go wrong on this album, but I’d start with track 2! RIYL: Balance and Composure, Real Estate, Beach Fossils FCC clean! Favorite tracks: 2, 5, 8, 11 1. (4:18) Super Natural – dreamy and relaxed, complete with references to beach carnivals, San Francisco, and a week in Cali-forn-ee-a **2. (3:07) Sunshine Type – An album standout, marked by the warmest of basslines 3. (3:38) What Got in the Way – A sad-surfy guitar line kicks this off, lyrics pining for Julia and yesterday 4. (3:28) Butterfly Dream – grounded by a more prominent drum line *5. (3:38) Curiosity – a fairly straightforward track, accented by a subtle, twinkly guitar motif 6. (3:52) Pure Devotion – bass centered, grounded by a steady beat 7. (3:47) Nightlight Girl – Somehow, makes the lyrics “you’re a nightlight girl and just glow” not completely cheesy **8. (3:22) Breeze – starts straightforward, soft yet propulsive, all with the album’s signature sound of summer-y melancholy 9. (4:00) All That It Ever Was – begins with acoustic strumming, then kicks into a full-bodied tune 10.
