The Moon and You, “A White Light That Sings” Label: self-released Reviewed by: Kim Walter, September 2017 First album from an Americana Duo out of Asheville, NC. Each song is varied and unique to the album. With male and female vocalists taking turns and a large array of talented musicians backing them up, this album has a lot of different sounds going on. The female singer shows unexpected depth and nuance in #4 and #5. I especially thought #10 was fun, but ironically it’s the only FCC warning on here. I also liked 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 11. 1. Med – Deep gravely voice with an upbeat Americana tune. 2. Slow - Country female voice. Story with bluesy/ swing feel 3. Med - Traditional bluegrass/ banjo at beginning the Americana sound – sounds vintage 4. Slow/Med – Female cabaret feeling 5. Slow – Female jazz/blues 6. Med – tapping love song 7. Slow – Harmonizing vocals highlight gentle song 8. Med – Americana revision of saddle music 9. Med – interesting mix of guitar picking and almost Asian sound 10. slow/med - ***FCC*** playful tune with large orchestral sound 11. slow – gentle lullaby, good end to album |
