Review: Blue Note assembled a group composed of the young bandleaders on their label and the results at mixed, but there are several outstanding tracks here, and the playing is top notch. Disc 1 seems like a warm-up for Disc 2, where they really shine. Wayne Shorter & Herbie Hancock sit in on Track 7.

(DISC 2) *7/ Masquelero (9:24) - piano starts spacey & slow punctuated by horns> interesting interplay with short solos from everyone> quick stop
*8/ Bayyinah (13:41) - piano starts in bursts of notes> full band assault midtempo jam> Rhodes solo swings uptempo> soaring sax solo> trumpet solo slows with uptempo percussion> trumpet swings uptempo & wild> short cacophonous jam morphs into straight ahead midtempo jam>percussion solo> slow jam & fade
*9/ Message Of Hope (7:08) - bass starts> mdtempo duet with piano & male chorus> sax solo> midtempo full band jam morphs into uptempo space jam> slows to a slow tempo jam with chorus & fades
