RP Boo is referred to as the founding father of footwork music; very fast beats (140-160bpm); on this album he’s exploring some darker themes and moods and seemingly deconstructing the genre of footwork while staying within it. Despite the dark themes there is a fun and positive vibe throughout the record.
FCCs: 1
Favorites: 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11
.) “No Body” - Mid tempo , vocal samples. Cool song but lots of “nobody fucking with me in these streets” throughout song - not FCC friendly
.) “Back From The Future” - Uptempo high hats, half time snares. Spooky sounding synth leads and bass lines. Vocal samples come on and add an interesting contrast to the darker synth sounds - “Wanna love ya/make love to me”
.) “At War” - This is a fun uptempo jukey snare song with vocal samples about being “at war in the streets”. Political connotations. This is a fun song with serious vibe and message.
.) “Cloudy Back Yard” - MeditatIve mis tempo vibe with no vocal samples and a spooky vibe
.) “U-Don’t No”Funky hats and snares, piano keys and spoken and sung vocal samples. I would play this one.
.) “Earth’s Battle Dance” - Uptempo drums lead to funky horn and guitar loop with vocals scattered on top
.)“Work The Flow!” - Pulsing bass and deconstructed kicks and snares with “I’m gonna work the flow” samples throughout . Abstract dance track
.) “Bounty” - Siren sounding synths lead and battle raps flow on top of uptempo foot work rhythms and pulsating bass line that comes in and out
.) “Flight 1235 (ft. DJ Phil & Crossfire)” - Uptempo and battle vibes on first half transition to house/indie rock vibe in the middle that continues throughout and merged with vocal samples.
.) “U Belong 2 Me” - Fast tempo starts off song and weaves in and out of two vocal samples “you belong to me,” and “let go of this” become “let go of me”. Critique of codependency?
.) “Wicked’Bu” - Dramatic synth intro; pulsating bassline, vocal samples, and flute sounding samples atop bongos and a snare/high hats once in a while; probably the least amount of drums out of any of the songs not he a
.) “Deep Sole” - funky loop and soul vocal samples atop quickly changing drum patterns; this has a really uplifting kind of vibe due to the sample that makes it stand out a bit from the other; the vinyl crackle and warmth are nicely juxtaposed to the tinny and super clean drum sounds; synth comes in toward the middle and replaces the loop giving song darker vibe.
