Free Yourself Up - Lake Street Dive (2018) In their 6th release, LSD continues its progression to a more polished and poppy sound. Bridget Kearney’s acoustic bass has given way to synths and twangy guitars. Another big change is the addition of Akie Bermiss on keyboards. Even with all this great instrumental talent, LSD's secret weapon is still the soulful voice of front woman Rachael Price. Although I prefer the rootsy sound of their previous release (Side Pony), this disk has some strong tunes on it. FCC: None RIYL: Alabama Shakes *1) Baby Don't Leave Me Alone... - Bouncy number about wanting a human shield to be distracted from one's thoughts especially given the 'crazy old man with his hand on the button' (3:39) *2) Good Kisser - Uptempo with the band really rocking out and Price killing it on vocals (3:39) 3) Shame, Shame, Shame - rocker about letting go of a relationship (4:21) *4) I Can Change (3:12) - slow, semi-acoustic ballad with nice synth accents (3:12) 5) Dude - Fast, heavy rocker with Price wanting to also be friends with her lover. (5:34) 6) Red Light Kisses - Funky, Steely Dan sounding love song. (4:12) 7) Doesn't Even Matter Now - Over produced rocker about wanting to dump a new love (4:22) 8) You Are Free - Rocker with a great bridge (3:47) * 9) Musta Been Something - Slow ballad with great vocals. (5:47) *10) Hang On - Mid-tempo with band rocking nicely (but not overdoing it) (4:44) *Mr. Bones especially likes these | ||
