PLAY THIS! Crispy, wintery, experimental indie pop. NY outfit altopalo makes melodic yet challenging rock for the moody KZSU DJ. Gorgeous arrangements of strings, clattering drums, and pummeling electronics accompany some truly haunting vocal performances. Really unique sound with R&B, electronic, and rock influences. Groovy at times when they hit their stride. The whole album is worth a listen, but I did my best to select a few tracks! Many tracks are radio friendly and very cool.
Genre: a wintery mix of sleet, hail, and rain, spring is coming soon though
RIYL: Moses Sumney, Local Natives, Animal Collective
FCCs: Cleaned by urs truly
Fav Tracks: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9
Blur (4:46) - ** dope! Very cool moody opening track, experimental yet pleasant, cool rhythm section, nice string heavenly outro
Mono (4:42) - *** stellar track, slowww burn, eventually explodes
Frozen Away (2:49) - ** piano intro, freak folk violin at the end, anco vibes with some yelps
Frozen There (2:29) - * distortion and tension, constant build with unintelligible lyrics, the noisy production flex reminds me of new Low!!
Wikcer (4:57) - plodding, opens with hesitant strings that grow in confidence, deep hazy vocals, later war drums
Head in Cloche (4:51) - ** heavily filtered vox to open, then vocals twist and wind through the mix as the song takes shape, slow and vibey, strings come in at 3 minutes, wow!
Pulp (3:33) - weird, yelpy vocals, interesting track...
Glow (3:44) - * very cool atmospheric track, twinkling piano, catching guitar line
Terra (3:26) - * Really great close, starts quiet but then builds to a beautiful finish
