Why You So Crazy is the tenth studio album by Portland rock quartet, The Dandy Warhols. Three years after their interesting but overlooked album, Distortland (2016), The Warhols continue mixing chill psych rock cuts with trippy baroque pop pieces soaked in electronic distortion. Only this time, they're experimenting more with vocal styles, minimal arrangements, and a slower pace, saving the extravaganza for other journeys. Strangely effective. RIYL: The Brian Jonestown, Primal Scream, The Black Angels, Blur and Franz Ferdinand. FCC WARNING: 3, 8 Recommended Tracks: 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 [FCC], 10, 11, 12 1. (0:41) Fred 'n' Ginger (intro) – Slow tempo. Sounds like a lost early 20th century recording. 2. (3:19) **Terraform – Medium tempo. Electro pop. 1990’s vibe. 3. (2:32) *Highlife – FCC [Damn?]. Medium-up tempo. Country-ish, campy rock. Appealing. 4. (3:49) ***Be Alright – Medium-up tempo. Superb psych pop recording. Sounds like the past and the future at the same time. My favorite track. 5. (2:28) Thee Elegant Bum – Medium-up tempo. Groovy cut. Reminds me of Blur. Lively. 6. (2:26) Sins Are Forgiven – Medium tempo. More country-ish pop. 7. (4:38) **Next Thing I Know – Medium tempo. Electronic pop recording. Trip-hop meets psych rock. 8. (2:38) *Small Town Girls – FCC [Fuck]. Medium-up tempo. Classic Dandy Warhols sound. Groovy pop. 9. (4:06) To the Church – Slow tempo. Distorted electronic sounds and vocals. Kinda of creepy. Weird beat. 10. (3:07) **Motor City Steel – Medium-up tempo. Country-ish pop part III. The coolest of the three. Fan of the background synths and the guitar solo. 11. (4:43) **Forever – Medium-up tempo. Effective electro pop recording. Nice beat, strange and haunting. 12. (6:22) *Ondine – Instrumental piece. Piano improvisation exercise. Inspired. |
