Experimental instrumentals from Toronto based sax artist Haas, teaming up with Doc Dunn who provides drums, organ, bass. Both contribute experimental analog synth work, electronics for a very avante collaboration that at times smacks of improv downtown jazz (the drumming, sax that skronks in moments) but is mostly rather chill organic experimental, even with eastern overtones. Haas has been providing us his works in recent years, some of which delve into Gamelan and world realms, but all feature sax playing in non traditional manners. Long time artist, he has his roots in 80’s band Martha and the Muffins (!). Hoping to have him on a future Day of Noise bill. Another great release, this is a vinyl only release (but I did a CD-R/digital transfer).
1) (3:52) abstract avante improv jazz feel with the drums, winds, noodling 2) (3:57) heavy on the analog synth noise tones, fast bursts of tenor sax get long winded (pun intended), sparse and trippy overall 3)* (6:17) cool sax, swingy chill ride cymbal drums, sexy but still atmospheric and cool 4) (2:10) skronky wacky sax, cool synth noise 5)* (6:37) abstract drumming with reed instrument that sounds very middle eastern, like from the Monty Python Cheese Shop skit (yes, we at kzsu see the world through the lens of monty python…) 6)* (3:02) super cool dark chill analog synth noise with long droney sax circular breathed 7) (4:51) abstract fast sax tones, “weird” electronics 8) (2:47) drums, spazzy sax, guttural electronics, wacky for sure
