Epilogue: A tribute to John Duffy, Various Artists, Smithsonian Folk Ways Recordings
This is a tribute album 16 years in the making, produced by Akira Otsuka, member of Japanese band Bluegrass 45 that so impressed John Duffy with their American music in the 70’s. John Duffy founded two of the most influential bands in bluegrass history, The Country Gentlemen and The Seldom Scene. His tastes and sources were eclectic, often raiding folk song books and Protestant hymnals for material. He embraced the music of Bob Dylan and his style of playing was rock and jazz-inflected. In the late 1950s and the 1960s, he also increasingly began working as a session musician to supplement his income. He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor in 1994. Lots of big names here! PS Check out the booklet - GREAT PIX! Best: 3, 5, 6, 9, 11, **13, 14, 16.
