In #AfroGospelToTheWorld, the up and coming African male duo Gil Joe X N. Kay deliver an overwhelmingly electronic and sometimes eclectic sound to contemporary African gospel music. Afro-Caribbean grooves and rhythms are dominant. Some tracks feature rap, hip-hop, electronic, and R&B. and all are dance friendly! The percussion parts tend to duck in and out of each song for nice contrast and transitions. No FCC. Favorite tracks: 1, 2 and 3. Review by Brian of LJH.

1) Nobody [3:34] Med/Fast tempo, hint of hip-hop and techno, more mellow dance groove, male rap intro (with a bit of real piano, but mostly synth keyboards, synth bass and syncopated drums) transitioning to male melodic vocals with more of an Afro-Caribbean rhythm reminiscent of techno, various piano and synth keyboard interludes with real drums dipping in and out, electric guitar with and without synth effects (esp. at end),
2) Do [3:31] Med/fast tempo, more upbeat Afro-Caribbean dance feel, synth xylophone/steel drum sound, dominant bass, synth flute interludes, unfamiliar “raking” percussion instrument (wooden sound tube?), combines staccato and smooth male vocals with both melodic and spoken word elements, choral moments provide a nice tapestry.
3) Better [3:38] Med tempo, more mellow dance feel, R&B vocal style over hand drums, synth keyboard, synth bass and intermittent harsh electronic guitar sound reminiscent of horns, smooth male baritone vocals.
4) Shackles [4:11] Med/fast tempo, more mellow dance feel, borrows from Mary Mary’s original “Shackles” chorus, synth flute, synth xylophone, synth keyboard, real and synth-sounding drums, smooth male baritone vocals, sing-a-long refrains.
5) With Me [3:18] Med/fast tempo, more upbeat Afro-Caribbean dance feel, dominant bass, percussion, intermittent electric guitar, intermittent synth keyboards, baritone male vocals.
6) Since You Came [2:27] Female spoken intro, R&B hip-hop feel, med/fast tempo, synth keyboards, synth drums, mostly smooth male baritone vocals (tenor background).
7) Issa No [3:28] Med/fast tempo, more upbeat hip-hop dance feel, familiar synth keyboard riff repeated throughout, heavy effect on synth bass, intermittent synth strings, male vocals in Nigerian and English mostly smooth, but be aware of the strange gargling vocal effect at 0:09-0:17 and 2:45-3:02.
