First album by this Chicago free improvisation group featuring people who’ve played in Califone, Iron & Wine, and Cursive. Four jams, two long and two short. Very groovy, approaching experimental jazz fusion like Miles in the seventies. Oren Ambarchi also comes to mind. Far out, gnarly, very good. Favorites: 2, 4. No words, no FCCs.
1. (2:27)—Boom-bap beat, synth noise.
2. *(24:40)—Mid-tempo, funky, steady. Wah guitars, synth noise, slow-burning sci-fi textures, sax and flute. Sun Ra zones.
3. (1:26)—Clips of electronic noise, soft drums.
4. *(22:17)—Starts with sliding layers of lovely, pastoral jazz, kinda like A Love Supreme with electronics, and moves toward krautrock.
