New Yorkers churn out an enjoyable and fun record, recorded by Gabe Wax (Deerhunter, Crumb), mixed by Andy Chugg (Pill) and imbued with influences of Wire, Talking Heads and The Clash. Andrew Kerr, Brendon Avalos and Britton Walker do nothing to pass as innovators but their digging into the past is never trivial. Throughout the record, the band lay down track after track of buzzing indie rock. What truly sets them apart though is the clear, simple and matter of fact delivery of their lyrics.
Like: Clash, Parquet Courts, Devo, Talking Heads
FCC: Clean
Play: 2, 6, 9, 10, 12
1.Cognitive Dissonance (2:37) Accessible tight eighties punk.
2.Pressure Inside (2:20) Simple upbeat good quality punk-rock.
3.Closer (2:51) Guitar riffs with classic Clash rhythm & vibe.
4.Automation (2:08) Post punk elastic bass and a tempo that swings back and forth.
5.Ceremonies of Waste (2:51) Catchiest track, chronicles passive-aggressive punk behaviors
6.Instant Pace (4:10) Zipwire slide guitar gives way to an economical Bernard Sumner solo.
7.No (1:16) The worst possible day of all time, where simply everything goes wrong.
8.Another Anthem (2:05) Lyrical and sonic themes with the necessary energy to make it feel fresh.
9.I Want (2:39) Anxious art-punk featuring Veronica Torres from Pill.
10.On Repeat (3:19) Rare piece of brightness, jangling and buzzing punk rock.
11.Smoke You (0:47) Fuzzed-out riffs, plucky bass lines.
12.Can't Stand It (3:44) Over-caffeinated and jittery, a streetside freakout.
13.Asleep/Awake (4:14) Mid tempo cool bass lines, more Clash punk vibes.
14.Taste For Trash (1:33) A pedal-to-the-metal, bongo-fueled burner.
15.Dudu (0:48) Instrumental outro.
