The belching, blues-rock mongrel that is the Hedvig Mollestad Trio could emanate only from the Scandinavian music scene and only in this particular time, when vinyl is trending and when the past is ceaselessly reexamined. Performing blues shrapnel improvisations allied to sprawling Frank Zappa-like, fuzzed-out guitar solos and a ZZ Top-worthy rhythm section manhandled into a sturdy chassis, Hedvig Mollestad Trio flames through, sourcing from the original Allman Brothers Band’s open-ended orchestral crescendos and Hendrix’s interstellar explorations.

Like: Bushman'S Revenge, Ola Kvernberg, Elephant9

FCC: Clean

Play: 2, 4, 6,

1.Beastie, Beastie (5:54) Agile bass riffs, frenetic fret-shredding, a track with sense of control.
2.First Thing To Pop Is The Eye (8:55) Remarkably tight, unapologetically loud and surging with energy.
3.Jurášek (3:59) Forgoes heavy rock riffing in favor of more nuanced, melodically-driven jazz.
4.Sugar Rush Mountain (4:05) Melding jazz fusion with prog-tastic shredding.
5.Bewitched, Dwarfed And Defeathered (4:39) Unalloyed metal but with stunt guitar gradually going ballistic.
6.Lucidness (8:12) Free jazz freak-out is anything but lucid, is definitely in the former camp.
