Wild, space-compressing longform drone works. Clarice Jensen is a Brooklyn-based cellist who directs the American Contemporary Music Ensemble and has played with Stars of the Lid and Max Richter. These two pieces are very different: one grand and intense and abrupt, one subtle and slowly shifting. Both are totally sick. Great nighttime stuff. No words, no FCCs.
1. (17:15)—Thick cluster of dissonant looping voices builds, then a jump cut to monolithic drone, like a gigantic wall of curving frosted glass. Goes toward Sunn O))) territory before another sudden shift into a gentle shimmering, liquidlike space.
2. (9:57)—High, soft whirring. Insistent bowed cello arpeggios.
