INDIE ROCK / FEMALE SINGER
Tancred is the stage name of singer / guitarist / songwriter Jess Abbott who’s got a pleasing voice and a keen ability to skewer contemporary life. The band includes bass, drums, keys, strings. The music is fun sounding & bouncy (RIYL 70s/80s new wave “girl-group” acts like the Bangles, the Go-Go’s) but have a deeper melancholy. Much of the material follows the ups & down of (one?) romantic lesbian relationship. Difficult lyrics printed on insert.
No FCC issues
1 Slow. Short intro sets the theme: this will be a hard, truthful look at life & love. (1:43)
2 ** Mid-fast. Living a hectic life in NYC; meeting someone new. (3:00)
3 ** Mid tempo. The girlfriend’s got some issues. Sweet & sad. Rocks a bit. (2:44)
4 * Mid-fast. Quite peppy. She’s falling for this girl, but perhaps reluctantly. (2:55)
5 Mid-slow. A very bad day. “I’m a loser sometimes.” Definitely a downer. (3:58)
6 * Mid tempo. Harder rocking. Good lead guitar & nice female backing singers. (3:28)
7 Slow. Things have turned bad; she’s taking it out on herself. Somber cello. (3:23)
8 * Mid-tempo. Alternating soft & hard passages. Things continue to worsen. (3:18)
9 Very slow. Tough going. Trying to reconcile, by taking all the blame. (3:35)
10 * Fast, bouncy, danceable. Damn, did the girl die?? I’m not sure. (3:09)
11 ** Slow. Gorgeous song, but she seems on the edge of a mental breakdown. (3:34)
