The Body are a Portland duo who delve into sonic heaviness with truly unique vocalizations that are the gender bending cross between a banshee wail and a demon from hell (ironically I once got a hate call from a listener lambasting me for playing music with what they perceived as the sound of a woman in pain, whereas in reality it’s a 250 pound bearded man). They incorporate a bleak heaviness associated mostly with doom, black, or noise metal genres, but their music is impossible to pigeonhole. In recent years they are known for their collaborations, notably with industrial leaning bands like Uniform, or even straight electro producers, this time with OAA, an LA based producer of “noisy, post-industrial techno”. This release is 10 songs of sledgehammer powerful heaviness. Taking the metal flavorings of early industrial Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Attrition, ramping them up by several orders of magnitude, cross-pollinating with doom the likes of Khanate, Boris, Sunn((O))). Do not miss them live and imagine that while playing this.

1) (2:50) midpaced, pensive beat minimal followed by sonic onslaughts 2) (4:01) truly demonic heaviness 3) (1:06) almost a break beat tinge, techno coming through with heavy white noise 4) (3:35) slow head nodding heavy beat 5) (3:14) heavy mid 6) (2:59) noise, beautiful industrial noise with jabs of percussion that become a slow slog beat 7) (4:41) has a notable hook and feel, slow beatless droning doom with techno beat gunfire smatterings, demonic growls, just perfect 8) (3:09) cord buzzing, dark noise intro, then pensive tribal urgent call to arms 9) (2:26) simple heavy tribal beat, air horn warning blasts(!) 10) (3:24) a big slow bashfest, ends with a good 15 sec of lovely noise Bill C. 3/22
