The Body are a Portland duo who delve into sonic heaviness with truly unique vocalizations that are the gender bending cross between a banshee wail and a demon from hell (ironically I once got a hate call from a listener lambasting me for playing music with what they perceived as the sound of a woman in pain, whereas in reality it’s a 250 pound bearded man). They incorporate a bleak heaviness associated mostly with doom, black, or noise metal genres, but their music is impossible to pigeonhole. In recent years they are known for their collaborations, notably with industrial leaning bands like Uniform, or even straight electro producers, this time with OAA, an LA based producer of “noisy, post-industrial techno”. This release is 10 songs of sledgehammer powerful heaviness. Taking the metal flavorings of early industrial Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Attrition, ramping them up by several orders of magnitude, cross-pollinating with doom the likes of Khanate, Boris, Sunn((O))). Do not miss them live and imagine that while playing this.
