80s action movie soundtracks combined with the heaviest 70s funk and free jazz. In 2019 Ambarchi and fourteen esteemed friends performed the entirety of his 2016 album Hubris (also in the KZSU library) at Café Oto in London. The live recording is, if anything, even more high-energy than the original. Among the players are Eiko Ishibashi (recently scored Drive My Car), Jim O'Rourke, and no fewer than three drummers. For speeding in a sleek car through a nighttime neon metropolis, looking for bad guys. Play 3 if you want drums, play 1 if you want synths and textures only. No words, no FCCs.

1. *(21:33)—Pulsing synth groove, like guitars strumming to a heavy funk rhythm. Glittering, builds in density and intensity, with a minimal but heavy electronic beat appearing for the final few minutes.
2. (1:57)—Brief interlude. Cut-up clean guitar noodling.
3. *(23:54)—Medium-fast, funky, with three drummers. (Again, THREE drummers!) Chugging rhythms, more pulsing synths, Ambarchi's skittering guitar noise. At about nine minutes the musicians briefly change key and the music jumps up a level in intensity. High-energy sax soloing from Mats Gustafsson from then on. Sounds like a roaring blizzard of rhythm and noise by about the fifteen-minute mark, constantly pushing the edge of chaos but still rolling with the groove. Most everything drops out for the last minute, but the music is still loud until the final five seconds.
