The Dead Kenny-Gs
Reviewed 2001-11-19
Free Jazz quartet featuring trumpet, reeds, bass, and drums. Songs generally feature wild soloing, often fast even when the general tempo is slow. There's some nice skills here, I especially thought Adam Roberts (Bass) did a fine job. A couple songs have cello (4, 7, and 8) which lends a more classical experimental feel. I enjoyed tracks 1, 2, and 6.
1 (7:09) *Up-tempo waltz with sweet bass under wailing horns
2 (5:16) *Medium groove to start, looser during solos (sax, trumpet)
3 (2:33) Slow, tense snippet
4 (2:16) More slow loose stuff, this time with cello. Speeds up at end
5 (10:49) Long, very slow and loose. Faster crazy bass solo, sax solo
6 (2:13) *Up-tempo marching with some massive percussion
7 (5:46) Slow, orchestral with cello
8 (1:38) Crashing horns and percussion
9 (2:43) Faster more rhythmic then melodic, with trumpet then sax solo
10 (4:31) Up-tempo, shouting horns over bold bass and drums
11 (2:45) Shorter with more wild soloing on sax and trumpet
