Afrobeat…No Go Die! Trans-Global African Funk Grooves
Collection of current Afrobeat funk. Needless to say, the influence of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is felt in every song. Many of these songs will be familiar from recent A file albums, as these are current bands (Antibalas/Daktaris are a personal favorite of mine). Fairly wide variety: hard funk to smoother jazz; with flavors of dance and traditional African present. Songs are close together so you can play this as a mix. The best cuts are 3, 5, 8, 2, and 10.
1) Sparser, still up-tempo with keyboards, guitar, melancholy vocals
2) Fela's son, smoother production, dance groove, lyrics about doin' the nasty
3) *Long instrumental groove
4) Mellow groove, funk edged guitar, male vocal
5) *Straight up funky, horns contribute heavily to groove
6) Acid jazzy, bass, vibes, percussion, horns
7) Smooth, melancholy Egypt 80 style with vocals
8) *Hard Fela-esqe Afrofunk, rhythmic percussion and horns
9) Talking drum and chant intro, mellow afro-groove soul
10) Nice long groove from Egypt 80
