Zen Guerilla Shadows on the Sun Sub Pop 09/09/01
70’s damaged rawk, fuzzy bluesy guits, overdriven vocs, heavy beats often in 12 bar. “Zen Guerilla 70’s Rock Explosion”. If you like this don’t you ever put down shit like Nugent, Pat Travers, Trower, ZZ Top, cuz at one time that was all we had (and it was good). Admittedly, ZG takes it a step further (thank god… “its 2001…cant you afford a fucking haircut”…). What we got here is hard driving blues based guit centered rock and fucking roll. Crank the Marshalls. “Play your guitar son”. Absolutely worthless w/o the 7th chord.
1)epic 12 bar 70’s upbeat stoner rock
2) upbeat rawkin Estrus style screetcher
3) stoner upbeat bluesy rock
4) texas heavy 12 bar slow blues
5) upbeat cliché rock
6) swingy 12 bar boogie rock
7) experimental feel to this, looping drums and vague guit/organ drones, instrumental
8) upbeat boogying
9) acoustic guits, mid tempo swingy beat gives this a definite 60’s, early 70’s flavor
10) upbeat exploitation of the 7th chord
11) chuggin hic’ish train beat and feel, old time boogy
12) western flavored 12 bar, acoustic guit, minimal drums in mix
13) swampy sleazy slower heaviness
14) live ¾ ballad, “soulful”, bluesy dedicated to Marvin Gaye. Kitsch.
