Jazz-influenced improv session that strives for a "prehistoric" sound, the thesis being: If art mirrors culture, then what did music sound like before there was culture? The real answer is that it was a lot of screaming and rock-banging, but this CD goes for a bit more depth: It has sax, bass and turntables in addition to drums. So it sounds like a lot of acoustic free improv does, but the prehistoric theme shows up nicely in a few tracks (3, 6, 8). 1- Big slow swell, lots of cymbals 2- Lonely sax, almost jazzy 3- A steady but very slow beat. Kind of fun. 4- Midtempo heavy beat, sax roar 5- Jazzy drums, quiet ending 6- Slow thunder; noisy 7- Sparse but interesting 8- Shaman vocal; ominous scrape; lots of drama 10- Buzzy noise 11- Spastic, loud 12- Quiet, playful 13- Distant whisper 14- Fun midtempo stomp 15- Jazzy exploration |
