Spaceways is Ken Vandermark's project focusing on soul and funk. Vandermark's blazing sax is the highlight (particularly since it's the only horn; the band is a trio). Nate McBride alternates between acoustic and electric bass, the latter adding to the funkiness of tracks like #3 and #6.
1- Slow/midtempo, low-level soul
*2- Quiet uptempo shuffle. Cool gnarled sax solo at the end.
*3- Funk: midtempo, energetic
*4- Mid/fast, a bit blazing
*5- Funk, midtempo, in stacatto 11/4 time
*6- More funk, hard midtempo step
7- Quiet and still (dedicated to Mark Rothko). Not sure what it's doing
here.
*8- Fast chaos, burning
9- Slow, patient
