Tanmoy Bose: Solo Tabla Label: Bol Records (Parag’s label!)
KZSU's very own Parag Chordia has chosen a virtuoso work by Tanmoy Bose to represent the first release of his Indian classical music label. The liner notes are so informative that there is nothing I can say in this review that would do it justice. All that I know is that this is one of the finest performances of any sort of music I have ever heard. The tabla is taken to new heights by Mr. Bose. Please please play this CD.
1. A long and traditional piece that showcases the full range of tabla capabilities - this is an incredible performance - there are moments of truly inspired tabla play that is out of this world.
2. I get a sense that this piece is more of a technical work; vocal rhythms are matched to the tabla as a sort of supplemental guideline to the rhythmic exploration.
3. This is the most entertaining piece of the CD - it is loose and playful, a real joy to listen to.
4. The ending tabla flourish in this is phenomenal - the rhythmic layers are so dense – is it even possible to move ones hands this fast?
