From Niger. Led by Yacouba Moumouni, a 9-piece band playing both traditional instruments and modern. Great vocals, strong melodies: at times bluesy – at times swinging -- a lot of Africa – a bit of the middle east. It all sounds rather alike after a while, though. Mamar Kassey, by the way, was a famous 16th century warrior. *1. Upbeat w/a big bass/vocal sound. 2. Strong string/percussion solo mid-song. Uptemo, big vox. 3. Female chorus, strings/drums, vox. Bouncy. *4. Slower, cool blend of traditional instruments/vox. 5. Upbeat w/bass/strings/vox. 6. Swaying, bass/string/vox. 7. Arabic-influenced solo chant intro. Flute/strings/drum. Slower. 8.
