Rise Above

Collection of classic Black Flag songs put together by Henry Rollins, performed true to form with guest vocals on all by stars including Iggy Pop, Lemmy, Ryan Adams to Chuck D., Ice-T, Keith Morris and of course Henry (who for heavens sake was not the only BF singer, just the last, Keith pre-dating him…. Jeeze louise…). Interesting to hear these songs w/ modern production quality, decipherable lyrics, for better or for worse (though they stand on their own, they pale compared to the greatness of the originals). Lots of FCCs but mostly limited to one quick or subtle one per song. This was organized and produced by Rollins as a benefit for the West Memphis Three for which little text is given in the liner notes (oh but Henry writes a lot about himself, surprise). If you aren’t familiar with the WM3 you should be: briefly, three young men were convicted and sentenced to death/life by a kangaroo court for the brutal senseless murders of three little boys on no evidence (all circumstantial) other than they wore black and liked heavy metal and goth music.
