Snowboy & the Latin Section: Para Puente
Label: Ubiquity

Well, my feeling is, if you’re going to do a tribute to the legendary Tito Puente, you better have some serious Latin-jazz chops. Snowboy’s group does not disappoint – this CD is full of SMOKIN’ Afro-Cuban jazz. All songs are great, but my favorites are: 1,4,5,6. This CD is yet another gem from Ubiquity. Play play!!!
1. Lots of congas & some vocals in the intro, big horn melodies, then around 3:00 the song revs up & goes into a real lively & cool uptempo number based around an African chant
2. Cheery uptempo stuff – big horn jams, lively Hammond organ play, appropriately titled tribute to Tito Puente
3. Lively singing in Spanish, midtempo Afro-Cuban rumba swinger
4. The horns really kick ass in this one – includes a great organ solo too
5. Fast! Wow, this one smokes! Can’t keep from dancin’!
6. Funky groove – catchy horn section – very cool
7. Neat timbales solo, an excellent organ solo, all following a straight-up Afro-Cuban groove, Snowboy’s conga solo is smokin’ too!
