You might've remembered Rex Ritter from Seattle/Portrland space/psych explorers Jessamine. Fontanelle is this incredibly sexy*, Funky (yep sooo damn funky it deserves a capital 'F'!), electro-jazz outfit. If you dig stuff like Herbie Hancock Headhunters-era stuff, Weather Report, Kraftwerk weened on American Blaxploitation (as opposed to Germanic Futurism), and um.... I think this is more Dead Kenny G's area o' expertise... Anyway, it's TRUE, freaky, groovey funk action all the way through.
1.) Slithering, warbling, space-funk from a better version of satin pantsed Buck Rodgers show. Thus, bringing up pre-"Silver Spoons" memories of Erin Grey. Me-ow!
2.) Awwww yeah! Total freaky, robotic, slow & slinky action. I tink R2-D2 is gettin' it on here, too!
3.) Waay looow down jazz-funk, nice drum fills here & there, too.
4.) Spacey twinkels (left over tonalities from Jessamine? Hmmm...) crossed with some interstellar wah-wah trickling down yo' ass.
5.) 70's model Stevie Wonder visits Portland whilst doing halftime jams for the American Basketball Association whilst Ralf & Florian of Kraftwerk discuss new technologies
6.) By the 'fro of Stanley Clarke (Nixon/Ford-era of course) this is dripping wit the tastiness, the grooviness, that is well. Thee Funk!
7.) Robots barking out messages in some strange Issac Asimov meets Melvin Peebles multi-verse whilst Miles' "Bitches Brew" band steps into the jam. To paraphrase Throbbing Gristle: Seven Jazz-Funk Greats! Tips da scale on my funkiness meter.
(* = and yeah I mean that in a "you should totally listen to this & make love to it!" kinda way)
--- Ragnar of Ravensfjord (Ravensfunk? Naaaah maybe not...)
