Easy contemporary jazz, led by 24-year-old trumpeter Mayfield ... who's done some fun work with Los Hombres Calientes but is in tame, suit-and-tie form here. Mainstream stuff -- nothing adventurous here, but it's well executed.

The Gimmick: These songs were commissioned to accompany a photography exhibit by Gordon Parks, an 89-year-old artist who's been the subject of an HBO documentary.

Parks plays piano on track 9; Wynton Marsalis guests on 8.

1*- Mid/fast, slinky
2- Slow, romantic
3- Interesting percussion gives way to mellow piano jazz
4- Soft
5**- Mid/fast, with players trading off solos. Cookin'.
6- Sappy
7- Slow, kinda '70s
8*- Mellow New Orleans blues, with some pretty cool soloing
9- Slow, atmospheric
10*- Slow, stormy, with some "free" elements
