Album Review
Reviewed 2003-04-13
according to the insert, jerry dimmer (dim dim) was once a professional cartoonist, a creator of video game music, and a children's book illustrator. this is not surprising when you listen to the cd. there's a whimsical feel to the whole album and most songs sound like they belong in cartoons. absolutely weird, random, and great! try #2, #6, #9, #13, #18.
- cute island-sounding track with random samples throughout. definitely cartoonish.
- a little boy's adventure through the woods - like skipping along a road and encountering weird creatures! at least that's what it feels like.
- short (<1 min) funny little interlude.
- you can probably call this one rocky. a nice break from all the cuteness.
- twinkly like a music box with waves of floating soundscapes.
- notes hopping along to a danceable beat.
- words have escaped me. this one is just weird.
- dancey and full of broken beats. our cartoon hero is running away from something.
- dim dim gets funky!
- if there's a video game where you keep popping balloons, this would be the soundtrack to it.
- another dancey one with what sounds like a distorted girl's voice singing.
- fast, upbeat, chaotic. i think the samples are creepy.
- laidback and downtempo. our cartoon hero is now on vacation.
- frantic and urgent. run, run, cartoon dude!
- minimal and gentle. clicky and chirpy.
- another indescribably weird track.
- tiptoe-y and playful.
- whoa. is this trip-hop? this album does have everything.
- another breakbeat track with little splashes of samples and notes.
- remix of #2. i think i like the original better but this is not bad either.
