Wendy Lands "Sings the Music of the Pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman" - This is a Canadian singer doing the music of Wladyslaw Szpilman (the main character in The Pianist). He wrote both classical compositions and popular music. This is the popular music that he wrote back in the 40s and 50s. The lyrics were translated to english and I believe his son helped out with the making of this album (check liner notes for more details). All these songs are love songs. Generally the mood is either light-hearted and happy or sexy and smokey. The musicians are really good and the singer is pretty nice too, but I just feel like this would fit into the "adult contemporary" category. Having never heard the originals it's hard to say whether it's the songs that I don't like that much or if it's the style in which these versions were performed. The album is definitely interesting on some levels, but I'm not sure how many people will want to play this at KZSU.
Katie P. 4/1/03

1) Slow and laid back. Brushed drums and quiet guitars. Smokey female vocals make it a little sexy and quite sweet. Song about rekindling love and passion.
2) Darker feel to the music. Slow and much more desperate and pleading. Sad love song about someone leaving. Classical guitar style with nice solo work.
3) Midtempo with a country-western feel to it. Slide guitar and violin. Light-hearted and fun song about dancing.
4) Slow and dramatic. Sexy and smokey. Quiet guitars and brushed drums with orchestration in the background. Some strings come in louder at times.
5) Dragging midtempo. Kind of a longing sentimental feel.
6) Slow and dramatic. Turns less dramatic and turns into a sad love ballad.
7) Slow and moody, but also very happy and totally in love.
8) Dragging midtempo with a bit of a country feel. Light-hearted and sweet song reminiscing of a lost love.
9) Starts very quiet and slow. Falls into a sexy jazzy tune at times, but also falls back into a more straight forward beat as well.
10) Classical guitar picking. Slow and dramatic.
11) Slow and quiet to start. Sad and reflective.
12) Slow and quiet. Mostly piano on this one. Very sad feel.
