File under indie-rock. A sampler from Ascetic Records (St Louis, MO). Featuring four bands:
DMS, Riddle of Steel, Houston and Ring, Cicada.
***DMS***: Ambient, dissonant, repeatitive guitar riffs and grooves mixed with powerful electronic beats (synth-based notes and noise). Whatever you want to call this - the word "acid" is the right adjective. Something between Dianogah and Don Caballero. Good!
# 1: Creepy, spacey synth notes - dissonant but groovy
# 4: Heavy synth beats, dissonant notes and Dianogah-like guitars
# 9: Funky guitars, dark, dissonant, surrealistic, noisy... (acid funk; i dub it)
***RIDDLE OF STEEL***: The bass sound here is so thick, heavy and ripping serious, it will drill a hole into your scull and mow your garden all at the same time. Heavy, loud, choppy phrases. A head banger. Vocals belong to early 90s alt sound.
# 2: Slow cool start, ripping bass, riffy guitars. Alternates between spacey and intense.
# 3: Intense and emotional. Spaces out in the chorus, opens up to a pseudo melody.
***HOUSTON***: Commercial alt rock. Synth melodies, thick guitars, sappy vocals.
# 5: Ignore
# 6: Got a nice build-up and good break;
nice punk-rockish vox in the chorus and guitar chops
***RING CICADA***: Spacey, non-resolving guitars, rhytmic change-ups.
# 7: Medium tempo, non-resolving guitars, tempo
changes.
# 8: Heavy bass, whiny/boring vocals.
