sonna - smile and the world smiles with you

this is certainly not an album for the short-attention spanned - most tracks here clock in at over 5 min. considering the lack of vocals on a supposed rock album, sonna fills up the time nicely by creating beautiful, complex washes of sounds (not unlike mogwai). perfect for lying in bed in the dark with the stereo turned way up. i liked the more minimal ones best: #2, #3, #5 and #6 (if you have the time for it) is well worth a listen.

1 - frantic drums and layers of guitars. at times chaotic sounding but pretty neat stuff.

2 - languid and pretty with a dash of twang. think of relaxing on a porch swing on a hot summer day.

3 - brian eno would be proud. this sounds like something off "music for airports" but with a fuzzy static-like drone in the back.

4 - this one has a more prominent melody that is carried throughout. i don't really have much to say for this one.

5 - quietly reflective and wonderfully understated

6 - wow! nearly 11 min of rock! you really have to think of this as a short story that gets more and more intriguing as you go along.
