A 1977 set of improvised duets, staying in a comfortable "inside" atmosphere. Ibrahim (then playing under the name "Dollar Brand") has a pleasant, relaxing style that gets pushed by Roach's energy. Every track is nice, but #1 (the longest) is the real highlight.
- Twenty-one-minute track, lots of exploratory snippets. Ibrahim latches onto some nice riffs (-14:00, -11:00) for just a couple minutes at a time, then backs off or shifts gears.
- Small, stacatto
- Gentle old-fashioned swing; last few minutes get pretty wild.
- Roach goes nuts on the snare drum.
