Snapshots of Chicago's avant-jazz scene. Focuses on structured jazz with creative composing and soloing (as opposed to totally free, abstract improv).
Tracks 7 and 8 are already in the KZSU library; the others are new to us.
1- Mid/fast clunky rhythm, studious but playful. With sax and vibraphone
2*- Cool modern bebop, mid/fast. Fast blurry sax solo.
3*- Scrambly fast avant-jazz led by sax.
4- Calm bassline beneath spastic drums & quiet rambling guitar
5- Mid/slow carnival waltz, w/cranky guitar and effects
6*- Calm and pretty guitar/drum duet
7*- Midtempo, restrained trio led by fluid and expressive sax
8- Midtempo wandering, vaguely melodic
9- Slow clarinet and bass
10*- Fast big-band attack, includes calmer but fast guitar solo
11- Nervous chatter: rapid sax pulses and electronic blips
12- Soft, nearly romantic. Nice smoky sax
13- Mid/fast fluttery improv: sax/piano/drums
