Neal Pollack Invasion -- Never Mind the Pollacks
Parody garage/punk -- Neal Pollack is a writer who has spoofed rock criticism, Norman Mailer, Hemingway, Gore Vidal and other pretentious folk. Now he's trying to be the "Spinal Tap of punk rock" by writing songs that could almost pass as part of the punk/garage revival currently flooding college radio and MTV. This genre is sure crying out to be ridiculed and some of the songs are quite funny -- among his targets are the Stooges, Sex Pistols, Lou Reed, Minutemen, and Ramones, but some of the songs just completely miss the mark.
PICS: 2, 3, 8 FCC: 1, 4, 6, 9

2. my fave track--rock and roll dance song -- "Do the Ostrich!" -- but repetitive

4. Sex Pistols parody, FCC--ass
5. Minuteman-esque noodling
6. Stooges-esque rocker, FCC-"ass"
7. bad bad Springsteen parody about Jersey in '72, girl
8. Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop" spoof about Coney Island, good
