Mark Growden -- Live at the Odeon

Dark folk/cabaret -- Multi-instrumentalist from Oakland -- accordion, banjo, lap steel, glass bottles, plus his backing band has excellent muted trumpet and drums. Plus a powerful voice that ranges from dust bowl howls to a deep baritone. He has several excellent raunchy songs (#8&9) but these come with a pile of FCCs. I especially liked his originals (#1&2) but the covers were good too, including Dolly Parton's Jolene.
PICS: 1, 2, 4, 7, 10, 12 FCC: 8, 9

1. starts with singing through back of banjo, then dark cabaret song with banjo + muted trumpet -- great!!
2. galloping guitar + drums -- apocalyptic hoedown -- good!
3. sruti box (harmonium) + voice -- stark and hypnotic
4. Who cover with banjo
5. reedy blowing + voice
6. glass bottle + voice
7. Tim Buckley cover w/ accordion, slow, mournful
8. raunchy, slow, eastern europe-style accordion, FCC-laden
9. hoedown! many bad words -- FCCs
10. Dolly Parton cover -- slow, stark
11. a capella cover from old musical "The Roar of the Greasepaint"
12. Cat Stevens cover -- banjo + voice
13. crowd sing-along + accordion, claps,
