Piano-drums duets, the drums being Dutch master Han Bennik. Improvised, but with mostly a formal jazz/classical feel, which is Nabatov's usual piano motif. Also lots of Bennik bombast (a good thing), using his trademark style of alternating precise, agile, light drumming with big loud clatter. Nabakov sometimes uses clattery prepared piano for a dual-percussion effect (1, 2) 1- Plinky, clattery hailstorm 2*- Quietly fast, gets louder and clattery 3- Slow prodding, lots of low notes 4- Loudly stabbing, starts quiet 5*- Mid/slow loud tumbling. Goofy ragtime ending. 6- Quiet, crystalline. Loud crescendo 7- Off-kilter march, dissonant 8*- Midtempo, upbeat blues piano. Opens w/deft Bennik solo 9- Busy and fast little study 10*- Mostly gentle, even swingy, w/super fast piano segment. 11- Slow | ||
