OPEN CITY - Birth of the Cruel (thin wrist)
Open City are a trio from Los Angeles and their music is a definite reaction to the superficial, blandness that is bulk the LA music scene. They consist of 2 electric guitars and percussion but they play these instruments like they were guilded by a distance race of alien musicians. Their music is an unconventional, melodically void Ð but emotionally charged exploration in improvisation that falls somewhere between free jazz and rock improv. Some of the best modern improv I have heard in a long time. PLAY!!! ÐtHE bAWD of eUPHONY
*1-(13:15) Drum fills and guitars turn into a ferocious onslaught of sound. Goes through many movements. These don't sound like your daddy's guitars, these guitars Burn and shimmer, drums pulse. HOT SHIT!
*2-(11:20) Minimal percussion and guitar tweeking builds up with unsetteling swells.
3-(20:00) 10 sec of silence. Weird drony bells begin and guitars echo the drone. Most of song stays in a minimal feel but towards the end chaos brews and becomes explosive once again.
