Lemon-Lime Lights -- If I Ever Get Back (Songs of the Eastbanian Disaspora)
Junkyard cabaret from the East Bay (Eastbaynia) featuring many of my favorite instruments -- accordion, cello, sousaphone, autoharp, tap dancing, and metal grinders. I've seen these folks a few years running at the Monsters of Accordion Fest at 21 Grand in Oakland -- they're great! A mix of post-swordfishtrombones Tom Waits (gravelly-voiced singer + odd instrumentation), weird circus music, Eastern European cabaret/jazz and a bit of blues/folk.
PICS: 1, 4, 5, 8, 9,
1. slow beginning, then weird uptempo cabaret with cello, sousaphone, accordion, great!
2. driving rock, grinder noises in background, sax solo
3. slow beginning, sparse, ethereal female lyrics -- later more instruments come in, rises in intensity
4. mid/slow ballad with catchy bass line, lyrics about phone call heartbreaks, autoharp + cello + violin
5. goofy rag about polygamy, male+ female trade-off vocs -- great sousaphone and muted cornet!
6. accordion + sousaphone bass line, great instrumental break halfway through
7. slow, weird creaky noises + cello, airy female vocals, hypnotic driving beat
8. bluesy at beginning, then great 3/4 dark cabaret/waltz with gravelly lyrics, violin solo
9. junkyard orchestra- lots of instruments, sax solo, tap dancing noises, metal grinder -- wow!
10. uptempo, circus accordion + whistles, sousaphone, jazzy lyrics
