Prog rock in Japanese. It’ll remind you, if you’re so inclined, of the Ruins and perhaps a bit of Melt-Banana, but this is not as extreme as either of those two in speed, eclecticism, or skill. Parts are good, parts are gratuitously complex, and some parts just don’t click. Well, it’s good for a debut.
1. Hyper genre-jumping tune; we have power chords, little-girl singing of “Aloha!”, prog-guitar runs, sudden stops and starts
2. Ludicrous guitar jamming with squeaks of “Spy!” bouncing around the mix
3. Sweeping riffs and siren-like vocals; awesome!
4. Lo-fi recording, perhaps made in the restaurant of the title; swirling guitar gives way to more insistent and eventually furious pounding
5. Pleasantly bouncy instrumental
6. Karaoke punk? The instro track plays at a pretty low level in the background while the guy and gal “singers” alternate counting down from three to zero over and over; now and then, the “instro” track bursts into the foreground; WTF?
7. Simple sing-song tune
8. Gets powerful in the last couple of minutes but before then, eh?
9. Call-and-response vocals over a catchy riff; which then inexplicably turns into a cartoonish joint for a couple of seconds before resuming the pattern
10. Epic series of buildups; to what end I can’t say but it’s rousing to be sure
11. Recall that track 6 with the countdown over the background riffing? It’s all in one room now in this un-remixed original; big deal
