An album of Zappa compositions by the unbelievably talented Ensemble Modern. Pretty much all of these tracks were originally composed for the Synclavier (a beastly early programmable music computer) due to the fact that FZ couldn’t find an orchestra patient enough to actually learn this crazy shit. 20 years later, the EM come along and give these tracks the “new music” treatment. The centerpiece here is their treatment of Greggary Peccary, which is nothing short of impressive. All of this is truly jazz from hell.

1. Bombastic orchestral fanfare
2. Short interlude
3. Relatively mellow but still intense
4. Laid back early-FZ style composition
*5. Horn lines cool medley with drum machine(!?)
6. Sparse piano & guitar
*7. Lurching, driving rhythm
*8. Speedy rendition of FZ classic
9. Tense orchestral buildup
**10. Reading of FZ’s epic yuppie satire.. As with many of his social commentary tracks, this is just as applicable today then when it was written 25 years ago.
