Grown Backwards

David Byrne, the man behind the Talking Heads. I should note that I like the Talking Heads and David Byrne but I’m not overly familiar with the comprehensive works of those artists, so if you want a comparison to X album or whatever, listen ahead. This has some really good songs that could probably fit into all sorts of shows. He even sings a couple opera songs. His characteristic warbling tenor stands above the well-orchestrated songs of this CD.

1. nice percussion and instrumental build up. has a nice groove with the vocals, vibes, the percussion and cello.
2. nice string and harp. pretty song.
3. one of the opera arias. lush orchestration. maybe it’ll float your boat?
4. strong brass at times, mellow elsewhere
5. synths and percussion set up a nice groove. sung-spoken vocals during the verses.
6. jazzy guitar, almost a bossa nova feel to the percussion.
7. standard beat, lots of brass
8. has almost a show tune feel to it. prominent strings
9. at times a playful feel, others old love song feel.
10. sort of a latin beat/ feel
11. prominent accordion
12. reverby guitar, plaintive strings
13. “I’m glad that …” fill in the blank
14. the other opera aira, some actually impressive vocal work
15. starts out sounding like movie music. ends sounding like weird dance music(?)
