Terrific album of intelligent, semi-noisy jangle rock. Good hooks buried in just a thin gauze of guitar noize; vocals competent but not showy, and solid grooves but not dance-floor 4/4. Consistently likable, upbeat, and cheer-you-up joyous.

1. Mid-tempo half-strummy, half-rocking with nice touches of distortion and horns
2. Great hook and driving tempo
3. Pretty but restrained (i.e., low-mixed) vocals and a solid guitar melody
4. Another sublime melody
5. Acoustic (in the non-loud sense, not in the no-amps sense) folk
6. Mild rocker
7. Catchy, with swooping vocal melody
8. Fast canter of a rhythm, wailing guitar and fuzzy vox
9. Violin accompaniment, male vocals, feedback, all very subdued
10. Not a freakout by any stretch but the hardest rocker here
11. Slow, loud, epic
12. Weepy beautiful
13. Fragile verses alternate with confident choruses
