Great earthly jazz; think late Coltrane with a deep inflection of African spirit. Recorded in 1997 at Fred Anderson's legendary Velvet Lounge in Chicago.
The band features Steve Perry, who is still Ernest's trombonist, and a young Jeff Parker on guitar (he hangs with Tortoise and the Chicago Underground Trio/Duo/etc.).
More recently Dawkins has put out a few albums on the Delmark label, and they're well worth checking out.
