Amalgam(e): 10 years of Red Toucan (coll)

A retrospective from Montreal label Red Toucan. A nice mix of free and abstract, sweet ballads and free blowouts. There should be plenty of recognizable names here, so dig in and enjoy!

Disc 1:
*1. Light, quick swing (30 sec of intro banter)
*2. Pretty ballad
3. Abstract alternates with sweet duet
4. Agitated group improv
*5. Mellow intro leads to “world music” groove
**6. Nice groove from Glenn Spearman & Co.
7. Percussive piano solo
*8. Nice modern bop goes wild
9. Slow exploratory duet
10. Abstract solo bass
**11. Upbeat angular bop
*12. Wild disjoint improv

Disc 2:

**1. Blazing Brotzmann sax over powerful free rhythm section
*2. Med tempo free bop
*3. Nice abstract duet from Butcher & Hemmingway
4. Mellow ballad
5. Pretty and slow improv gets gradually busier
*6. Flowing piano/sax duet
7. Angular duet improv
8. Slow, atmospheric drones
*9. Raucous big band improv
*10. Nice crazed sax over speedy rhythm section, slows at end
11. Lite ballad
12. Classical sounding piano solo
