Funky stuff with sci-fi leanings and dance-music technology. Loud and gloopy, mostly a dark atmosphere. What's cool is that this is Charlie Hunter (guitar) and Bobby Previte (drums), sounding very different from usual. Sounds include fast basslines and liquid wah-wah splashes from Hunter ... drum-machine electronics set up by Previte ... and Greg Osby (sax) sounding like his usual cerebral-funky self, but often filtered or processed. This is the first in, apparently, a trilogy of trios, each with Hunter and Previte and a special guest. Can't wait for the others. 1- Harsh swooping noises, dark sax near the end 2- Nice mid/fast groove, mixed-up feel 3- Mystery groove, some cool midtempo guitar 4- Insistent hammering squeal. Short. 5- Fast and chill. Starts quiet. 6- A cool urban groove. 7- Sparse and snappy, fairly fast 8- A series of small episodes. Lots of strange noises and some sampled vocals later; also a couple of short grooves. 9- Spacey landscape with filtered, curled-up sax solo 10- Midtempo and melancholy, with clear sax sound. 11- Drifting and eerie |
