The Bawd Of Euphony
Reviewed 2004-10-05
Easily one of my favorite local bands (on cd that is, live is another story). Six Organs is one guy, Ben Chasny, and his music is a blend of moody-psychedelic-acoustic-raga-folk. Known for layered sonics, acoustic 6 & 12 string guitars, & percussion Six Organ records are beautiful. (He will put out a record on Drag City in early 2005).This CD is a re-release of a long out of print 12” and consists of 2 mostly instrumental tracks each over 20:00 Minutes. Apparently Chasny with this record was “appropriating the concept of Bode’s Law, a rough rule that predicts the spacing of the planets in the solar system in relation to the perceived distance of each planet from the sun”. Whatever that means this record is cool. If you have the balls, play this or play part of it cause it is a great record.

1**(22:17) Very Moody drones with bells, various percussion and distant moaning. Acoustic raga begins and coasts through-out the song. Great guitar work. Songs ends will solo guitar sans drone. Beautiful and MOODY!
2**(22:54) Bonus track composed for the CD release of this record. More upbeat acoustic fingering with crackling over the whole thing. The original Manifestation LP had one side of music and the other side was blank with an etching of the sun (See the inside sleeve for a picture) and that crackling sound is that b side of the record played on a record played by Ben. In the Middle David Tibet from CURRENT 93 makes a spoken word cameo (Break out your Lord of the Rings outfits). Ben Rings out chords to fake us out at the end for like 4 minutes.
