Scott Fields Ensemble – Christangelfox
An hour long piece featuring guitar, clarinet, cello and percussion. The liner notes say that Fields was aiming for an Asian sound with each instrument to be played in a style evoking koto, shakuhachi, erhu, and a Gamelan respectively. The result is definitely Western improv, but it has an organic Eastern flow to it (which resists being tracked for easy radio play, unfortunately). Good stuff if you’re in a patient mood.
