Guitar duets from an unlikely pair: Fields, who’s into abstract compositions; and Parker, who’s often heard with the likes of the Chicago Underground series. Their previous work has plenty of overlap (i.e. Parker's into avant/improv stuff) but still... at first glance they struck me as an unlikely but promising duo.

The result is a series of dialogues, the two guitars playing off each other while adhering to some loose compositional ideas.

Jazzy at turns, even bluesy, but overall this has an abstract, improvised feel – except for Track 1, which kind of grooves. The mood tends to be calm rather than noisy, with both guitarists concentrating on intertwining their playing. Very nice.

1- Laid-back. Nice riff develops, over which Parker solos in a bluesy-avant mode
2- Scrabbly improvising, often choppy
3- More flowing and lyrical than #2, but still rather abstract
4- Fluttery and bluesy.
5- Opens loud, and has its abrasive moments … but it’s really a drifting, slow-moving piece. At 17 minutes, the longest track here.
6- Quiet, fairly peaceful. Some gentle jazz guitar near the end.
