The boys from the disbanded Anniversary have returned, and it sounds like they've been listening to lots of nashville skyline. They've fully embraced the alt-country influences that they only hinted at in their previous formation. They've ditched the synth keyboards in favor of harmonica and weepy pedal-steel. Expect acoustic guitar and simple piano. Some pleasant tracks, but nothing too exciting. If you like alt-country, or if you were into the Anniversary, you'll probably want to check this out. Track 2 is the closest thing to a standout. 1- a light breezy tune with mostly acoustic guitar and steel guitar, scratchy voice *2- very reminiscent of Neil Young in guitar riff and voice in chorus, more rockish than most the cd, which is a good thing 3- sort of a wistful song with aching steel guitar *4- starts with harmonica, piano, and sparse drums; nice harmonies with fem backup voice 5- more upbeat, stones-like music, drags on near end, but female backup provides some soul to keep it alive *- pleasant guitar strumming 7- in the first half country snarl in voice sounds too forced and bugs, which is too bad because second half is quite nice. FCC (shit) 8- just acoustic picking and voice, quite pleasant track 9- most similar to anniversary. like his return to former singing style 10- sort of a yawn. ends with cheesy group-singing of cliché chorus -nate jones | ||
